My Dream Was Larger

My Dream Was Larger

by Armina

They wanted to measure our dreams, to build cages for our flight, and they called it reality. But every time they drew bars around us, our feathers grew, we became lighter, as if limitation only taught us how much sky we already knew. I stand among cages still circling me and feathers growing from my shoulders, light like the moment after you finish crying but the weight of it is still resting on you. Freedom isn’t always an open door; sometimes it’s the instant you realize no cage is ever the size of your dream.
