Forgotten Butterflies

by Sahar

In the gray alleys of the city, where the light only breathed a sigh, lived a girl named Ayla who could no longer see anything. Not from blindness, but from exhaustion. Her eyes were filled with memories that sat like daggers in her heart; memories lost, loves that had flown and never returned. One night, when her tears no longer had the strength to fall, something inside her broke. But a good break. From the dark depths of her eyes, first a small blue butterfly emerged, then dozens, then hundreds of brilliant blue and purple butterflies. They flew from her eyes like souls freed from the cage of sadness. Each butterfly was a buried wish; each flap of wings, a possible “again.” Ayla tilted her head back and smiled for the first time in years. She no longer needed to see the world with ordinary eyes. Now the world was coming out of her, colorful and alive. From that night on, anyone who looked up at the sky and saw a blue butterfly knew that somewhere, there was a girl who had given up her wings in place of her tears.
