The Weight of Gazes
by ☀Mitra✨_SGP
This piece portrays the heaviness of gazes that can shape a person’s life even without physical presence. The girl stands between two worlds: a warm, bright one, and a cold, blue one where the shadows of judgment wander. Beneath the windows and beside the passers‑by, icons of likes, comments and digital reactions appear, as if real life has been interpreted as a social‑media feed; a place where every movement, every silence turns into a number, and every number becomes a new judgment. The shadows are faceless, yet their presence is heavy, those who watch in silence, analyze, and speak about her. The girl stands at the center of this quiet chaos, frightened by the gazes and judgments, holding her body tightly, trying to protect herself against a world that evaluates her every moment. In this painting, collective life and digital life are mirrored together. The intention is to show how rumors, both in society and online, can suspend a person between two worlds: the world of being seen and the world of being judged. Our digital life is simply an extension of our social life. This is a mixed‑media and multi‑medium artwork: a physical painting (pencil, colored pencil, oil paint, acrylic) combined with collage.
