The Ice Ritual

She entered the cold to be cleansed. In this work, the female body becomes a symbol of Mother Earth, surrendering herself to a frozen pool where pain is not denied, but transformed. Perhaps the world we live in is passing through such a season now. We feel its coldness every day, unaware that purification is often difficult and uncomfortable before it becomes visible, as if our present world is itself in a period of cleansing. I like to imagine that what will remain from this era is not its wounds, but a spirit refined beneath layers of ice, a gift for the future, for those who will live after us. This is a physical painting created with pencil, colored pencil, and oil thinner on 30×40 cardboard, shaped from an imagined inner vision.
