They did not fall apart all at once. It happened quietly, like constellations loosening their grip on the night. At first, they moved together. Four figures suspended between gravity and memory, stitched from the same electric thread. Their bodies carried seam lines where old versions of themselves had been repaired, rewritten, resurrected. Every scar glowed neon beneath the surface, impossible to hide in this strange ultraviolet world. The universe around them had no horizon. Only currents. Pulses of color drifting like radio signals from forgotten dreams. Pink storms. Indigo tides. Heat blooming gold at the center of everything like a heart too bright to touch. They floated there for years, or seconds. Time behaved differently in the distance between people. No one spoke. Words were heavy things. Instead, they communicated through proximity. A tilt of the head. Fingers nearly touching. The silent ache of wanting to remain connected while the current kept pulling. And still, they drifted. Not away from each other exactly. More like away from certainty. Away from the versions of themselves that once felt anchored to names, places, futures. What remained was raw motion and luminous instinct. They became celestial debris with souls still humming inside. Yet there was beauty in it. Because adrift does not always mean lost. Sometimes it means surrendering to the tide long enough to discover what survives when maps fail. Sometimes it means becoming untethered enough to glow on your own.
