Bad Mother

Bad Mother

by Charoa

Bad Mother emerged from one of the hardest truths I’ve had to face—that pain can twist love into something unrecognizable. During the height of my chronic pain, I was consumed by anger, exhaustion, and self-pity. I became short-tempered, distant, and cold, and though I loved my children deeply, I couldn’t always show it. This piece captures the rawness of that realization—the swollen eyes, the red and tender skin from crying, the quiet agony of knowing I had become someone who hurt the people I most wanted to protect. Unlike many of my works, Bad Mother doesn’t seek beauty; it seeks honesty. It is not polished or gentle. It holds the jagged edges of shame and remorse, the vulnerability of a mother seeing herself clearly for the first time. Every mark and imperfection in the image carries weight—each one a trace of regret, a reminder of the messy humanity behind motherhood. Creating this piece was both punishment and release. It forced me to sit with the discomfort of who I had been, but it also offered a way forward. Through this act of creation, I began to transform guilt into understanding. I shared it not to seek forgiveness, but to open a dialogue—to acknowledge my failures and begin rebuilding trust with those I love. Now, Bad Mother stands as one of the most defining works in my Art Therapy by MindSoul Meditations program. It represents how art can turn pain into truth, and truth into healing. Created through AI and refined with my own digital brushstrokes in Photoshop, it bridges technology and emotion—a confession turned into catharsis.
