After the Picknick

After the Picknick

by FotoGraaGHanneke

This bicycle was dredged up from a lake. It was waiting to be picked up by the municipal service. I saw the bike standing by the bin and picnic table and it had something of a beauty with all the buttercups around it. How does a bicycle end up in the water of a lake? The Netherlands is a country known for its bicycle as a means of transport from A to B. The majority of the inhabitants do have a bicycle. The landscape is mostly flat and the distances are often short. If you own a bicycle, you have to be careful when you park it somewhere. Many bicycles are well secured with double locks, because before you know it someone else will steal your bicycle in an unguarded moment and dump it when it is no longer needed or sell the bicycle on.
