healing happens in layers

this is an artwork i created to convey the beauty of donating blood and the hope that blood donations should be a more common thing we undertake to assist each other, it is an altruistic endeavour representing the kindness of one's community the art is made in two parts, being a mixed media artist i work with photography a lot and like to make portraits but due to my current circumstances i used ai to generate multiple iterations of the detailed concept until finally getting the initial image that constitutes the first part of the artwork which is a photograph of two people; a woman of my ethnicity wearing a dress that looks like a blood bag, giving a red rose signifying the transfer of blood, to a grateful man who is the recipient and hence dressed as a patient would be, in a hospital room the second part is the transformation of the ai generated image into a collage made by me, in order to add more agency of the self to the artwork to the top left the image appears ripped with red paper below it representing the importance the colour has in conveying the concept, while the dress the woman is wearing, a blood pack, is displayed at the bottom right the woman has a torn paper with hearts on it placed on the image in such a way it appears to represent her speech and shows an expression of love that is almost never transferred from donor to recipient as they tend to be unknown to each other she also has a red butterfly perched on her back representing her willingness to transfer blood while the man has white butterfly wings representing his willingness to receive but also a deficiency of blood, he has a paper heart on his chest with light impressions of the colour red on it and an apparent cut mark with blood coming out of it representing his dearth of the vital substance and need for it his hand has a red paint mark representing the blood he's made of and needs; near his face the words "healing happens in layers" is shown as text on the underlying paper which has a double meaning representing both, the way in which art takes time and layers to create and helps the artist get some semblance of closure and peace of mind, as well as the various ways in which blood donation can help individuals and also the process by which it does, described in more detail by the message provided at the bottom left of the collage: "Blood donation is crucial because it sustains life sarving medical treatments, provides critical support during emergencies and, because human blood cannot be manufactured artificially, a single donation can be separated into red cells, plasma, and platelets, potentially saving or improving up to three lives" the top right has the words "collect beautiful moments" which also has a double meaning, inviting the viewer to collect the memory of participating in the altruistic act of donating blood, while also encouraging potential seekers of beautiful art to purchase this artwork : )
