Me and My Ghosts

Me and My Ghosts

by Muriel Lherm

This is a self-portrait of my inner world as it exists now. Since loss entered my life, I have felt surrounded by those I have loved and lost. I keep them close. They are not frightening presences, but fragments of memory, tenderness, grief and love that continue to inhabit the space around me. In this work, the dead coexist with flowers, beauty, color and life. That is how grief feels to me: not simply an absence, but a strange and intimate form of presence. The people we lose do not disappear completely. They become part of our landscape, part of our memories, and ultimately part of who we are. This is me now, still living but carrying my ghosts with me.
