Arctic Refuge

by Alexander Seleznyov

Visiting the Lofoten Islands had been a dream of mine for a long time. Standing in a place that has inspired so many iconic photographs, I felt that familiar childhood wonder - that sense of being small in a world built for giants. The landscape hits you hard. It is a place of wild contrasts, where silent waters and perfect reflections can instantly shift into hurricane winds. Yet against the backdrop of imposing snow-covered peaks and notoriously high prices, there was a surprising comfort in the crisp Arctic air. This photograph captures one of those calm evenings. There was nothing inherently grand happening, which made it feel incredibly special. Walking past that quiet village, looking at the perfect mirror image in the water, it finally hit me that I was actually there. After years of staring at other people's photographs of Lofoten, I was finally standing in my own dream, watching the lights turn on as night fell over the peaks.
