Spring Chores

Spring Chores

by Alexander Seleznyov

In the very heart of the forest, where sunlight barely penetrates through the dense canopy of tree crowns, grows an unnoticed flower. Around it floats the subtle scent of moist earth and the soft whisper of leaves. It seems ordinary, barely distinguishable from other harbingers of spring. But if you put on the glasses of imagination, you might see its true essence. Through the magical lens of fantasy, the world around comes to life in unknown colors. On the first Sunday of spring, as warm rays gently caress the fragile sprouts, fairies, daughters of the dawn itself, gather. They have an important mission to complete: they need to collect magical dew, which forms only in this enchanted hour. They weave through the shadows, laughter mingling with the rustling of leaves, racing against the light. Flitting on shining wings, they move from one droplet to another, gathering it in tiny baskets. They hurry, knowing that every second counts, for they have just one hour to awaken spring. If they do not succeed, the whole world will be covered with winter, cold, and darkness for a long year.
