Between Skin and Wings

Between Skin and Wings

by Sneketoshi

This collaborative artwork is a fusion of crystal, digital glitch, nature, geometry, and mythology , creating a world that exists between physical r reality and the digital realm a universe where forms are constantly breaking, transforming, and being reborn. The presence of both the snake and the butterfly carries a deep mythological meaning. Across many cultures, the snake symbolizes transformation, hidden wisdom, healing, cycles of life, and rebirth a creature that sheds its old skin to continue its journey. The butterfly represents metamorphosis, freedom, the soul, and renewal an existence that leaves behind one form to emerge into another. Together, the snake and butterfly represent two different paths of transformation: The snake transforms by shedding its old skin , while the butterfly transforms by leaving its cocoon . Both reflect the universal truth that change is an essential part of existence. At the center of the piece, the snake is entirely made of crystal , a creature that simultaneously represents power, mystery, transformation, and rebirth. The crystalline body transforms this ancient symbol into a surreal entity that holds light, reflection, and fragility within itself, creating a balance between vulnerability and strength. Surrounding the snake are glitched trees with Sakura blossoms . These trees are built through layers of digital distortion, fragmented forms, and visual disruption. Positioned on both sides of the composition in a mirror-like symmetrical arrangement , they appear as reflections of each other, almost like portals into a parallel universe. The Sakura blossoms emerging through this digital chaos symbolize fleeting beauty, the cycles of life, and the delicate nature of existence. The mirrored symmetry combined with glitch creates a dialogue between harmony and disorder, nature and technology. On both sides of the artwork are two mirrored geometric forms based on Gereh MA , a geometric knot I designed in 2021. Gereh means knot in Persian culture, symbolizing connection, unity, and the relationship between elements, while MA comes from the Persian word “we.” The structure is created from interconnected mirrored pieces, where each fragment gains meaning through its relationship with the whole. Gereh MA represents the idea that nothing exists completely separate, identity is formed through connection and interaction. The presence of the two Gereh MA forms on each side of the artwork acts like two gateways or opposing forces, surrounding the central world and reinforcing the concept of unity and interconnectedness.
