Time Keepers

In ancient times, time was uniform and unhurried, there was no division into day and night. Two sisters were the guardians of time and watched the clock of fate. But they were young and cheerful and didn't take their duties seriously. The sisters angered the gods with their carelessness, and the gods decided to separate them. They sent a lightning bolt that broke the clock of fate into two halves, one became day, the other night. Each sister had to protect her half of the clock, one became the keeper of the day, the other of the night. But this separated them forever, because day and night follow each other and never intersect. Since then, they have faithfully and reverently fulfilled their duty, but desperately missed each other.
