Diary of Pain: The mists of existence

by Gorkem Keser

In various geographical regions of Turkey, from vast plains to mountainous areas, human beings occasionally confront a profound sense of solitude. This solitude is not merely a physical isolation but also intertwined with existential anguish and a quest for meaning. The tranquility and silence of landscapes in this photograph make you feel as if they are a reflection of the inner turmoil experienced by individuals. While being captivated by the enchantment of nature in this photograph, I also wanted you to sense a tinge of melancholy. In this photograph, you see a farmer burning stubble(01). I wanted to use the rising smoke during the stubble burning as a symbol of the inner burning of existential pain that we experience People strive to find a balance with geographical spaces, grappling with feelings of helplessness and despair. Nature accompanies them in their internal distress, offering its own unique silence as a companion to their existential dilemmas. What I wanted to convey is that this sense of loneliness and existential angst deepens your quest for meaning as you gaze at this photograph. 01 Burning stubble "Burning stubble" refers to setting fire to the crop residues (such as grain stalks or straw) that remain in agricultural fields after harvest. Stubble burning has been a common agricultural practice in some regions. However, it has been banned or restricted in many countries due to its environmental impacts and health risks.
