Spine

Spine

by Violet Bond

Throughout my life, I have cherished bones. The appearance of a fish spine after it's been cooked in a fire, the lightweight feel of bird bones discovered on the beach, the multitude of winding delicate ribs in a snake, or the sheer size of a crocodile's jaw—all revealing a hidden world beneath the surface. These sculptures represent, eventually, all that we will leave behind. Made on Dalabon country in the Northern Territory, Australia. I pay my respect to the Traditional Owners of the land and their Elders, past, present and emerging. This body of work was created with my dear friend Valentina Brave, I owe her so much.
