Avalokitesvara, a Bodhisattva, is worshipped in the Mahayana Buddhist tradition. In China, She is known as Guan Shi Yin Phu Sa (Kwan She Im Pou Sat), while in public, She is commonly called Dewi Kwan Im. She has attained Enlightenment but has postponed Her Nirvana to help alleviate the suffering of beings in this mortal world. Vihara Dewi Kwan Im, also known as Vihara Buddhayana Dewi Kwan Im, is one of the oldest and most ancient sites located in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province. The monastery, which was built at the foot of Mount Burung Mandi, in Damar District, East Belitung, is over two centuries old, specifically 226 years old. The East Belitung Dewi Kwan Im Temple was first discovered in 1747, as recorded in historical documents.
