Gradually, a deep and wide chasm opened between us. I was also too young and distressed to understand what was happening to us. My connection with him diminished more and more; we both got used to loneliness and distance. I no longer knew how he spent his days at night. I had immersed myself in lessons, books, hidden stories, and sometimes my paintings; just like him, who had sought refuge in his studies, books, and music. Even on our birthday, we had nothing to say to each other. We congratulated each other briefly and devoid of feeling. Life had sunk into silence and darkness. Our silence was born from pain; a pain that was too much for us and plunged us into a perpetual stupor. Unbeknownst to us, we were just at the beginning of that painful path.
