Alegre Calderón de Saías

by Aaron Sosa

She was born in Salonika, Greece, on February 4, 1923. In 1943 the area of the city where her family lived was transformed into a ghetto, where they had to stay - with the exception of a sister who was married and moved to Syria - and then taken to Auschwitz. She was taken to Bergen-Belsen, and after liberation, back to her birthplace. In Salonika she was reunited with an old acquaintance whom she married. They went first to the United States and settled in Venezuela in 1956. Testimony: "It was night when we arrived in Birkenau. In the morning we saw some French women and asked them where they took the mothers, the grandparents, everyone. Hard-hearted people told us: Are you seeing that smoke? There they are. They killed them all: my mother, my uncles, my cousins, my nephews. Of my whole family, only I came back. Only I made it out alive. Caracas - Venezuela 2010 aaronsosa.eth.co www.aaronsosaphotography.com Digital Photography Size: 5000 x 3321px 300 DPI About this project: In the history of mankind there can be found no other crime so heinous, nor so coldly calculated, as the one that as that which annihilated millions of human beings in the Nazi concentration camps. This project has allowed me to enter for a brief moment into the lives of an important group of these exiles and survivors, who arrived in Latin American lands many years ago to start a new life; and who have given me the honor of knowing a little about them and their experiences, as well as to photograph them and immortalize them through photography. So far in minting this collection I have been able to portray 58 survivors: 20 from Venezuela 25 from Uruguay 13 from Argentina The first part of the survivors that arrived in Venezuela were minted as 1/1 NFTs on the ETH blockchain. I have decided to make the survivors that arrived in Uruguay available in editions of 50 on the Tezos blockchain and the survivors from Argentina will be minted later. My intention with the sale of the NFTs is to self-finance the project to give it continuity. Soon I must travel to Chile where there are 13 survivors waiting to be portrayed and then continue moving around Latin America to continue with the project. Another of the main objectives is to finance the printing of a book that gathers all the portraits, biographies and testimonies of each survivor.
