Can we sit here, Silent?

Can we sit here, Silent?

by Juan Albornoz

Your gaze, half-hidden in a blur of light— asks nothing of me, yet gives everything, a stillness trembling inside a heart-shaped hourglass Shadows draw closer, all familiar we’ve met them here before, with nothing changed at all Why does my mind come undone in the pause between your breaths? "Do you speak with intention, or not at all?" It’s been a long time since I owned my tongue; we only speak through skin, or not at all Stillness settles with us, and your eyes become a voice: "Can we stay here, silent? here between blooming and breaking, and let the quiet heal what shines beneath?" Heal the shattered constellations that once held our souls together, then we could trick our hearts for a second, so they won't notice how much it all mattered to us But do I care enough? Do I dare matter to you? I wish our silence would say more— I just hope I am yours
