Oath of the Forest

Oath of the Forest

by Jinous

She was not born to rule the forest. She was chosen by it. One night, as storms tore the canopy apart, the wolf found her kneeling beneath the pines, whispering peace to the trembling earth. It had seen men take from the woods without giving back — but this girl gave without being asked. Her hands quieted the rain. Her voice settled the startled birds. The wolf bowed its great head and offered her its crown of green and gold. She accepted, and from that night the forest breathed through her — every leaf a heartbeat, every firefly a promise kept. She is no queen. She is a keeper. And her only law is this: the forest gave her life, so she will give hers to the forest. That is the oath she keeps, under the aurora, every night of the year.
